Slide Show Archive - Togher Boys National School - 01

The Historical Assoc. were pleased to have the opportunity to trawl through the photographic archives of Togher Boys National School which are composed mainly of School Tours ; however some batches show rare views of the Togher area which contrast sharply with the modern look. The Archives are on 35mm Film and Slides ; while the slides can be copied to digital format using appropriate available equipment the film presents a problem in that it would need to be physically cut to scan properly. It is therefore not feasible at this time to scan this particular part of the project which is made up of educational cartoons in the Irish Language. * However plans are in motion to engage the services of a professional studio to undertake the task of transferring these old rolls which the blog hopes to showcase in the near future*. Many thanks to Pat , the Caretaker for loaning the box of treasures which haven't been seen in decades. It is thought that they date from the 1970s. Any information on dates and people featured therein would be greatly appreciated. Below are the results of the scanning of the first slide in a series of posts.

Actual Original Slides and 9mm Film Rolls

SLIDE ARCHIVE VOL.1

The slides in each batch are scanned in as is and in no particular order. They may be interspersed with photographs unrelated to the Tour in question but are transferred as they were found in each slide box. The photographs are non - captioned as no information as to year , location or event is known at this time. The Historical Assoc. can be contacted either through the Facebook Group - imfromtogherboy or through the comments section of this blog if any information or identification is forthcoming.

Slides V1/1 - V1/20 are from a Togher BS trip to Courtmacsherry and Timoleague from circa 1984. This was a class that was taught by teacher Ted O'Sullivan for three consecutive years from 1983-1985. The team photos are from the same trip, where Togher (in changed colours of red) defeated Timoleague (in blue) in a friendly football match on a very warm day. That bunch of players went on to win the Sciath na Scól football final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in a tight match against Ballincollig in 1985. I recall this very well as I played in both matches. Ted O'Sullivan, who was quite an eccentric man in his own ways at times, had an affinity towards Courtmacsherry and mentioned the place from time to time in class. Hence the reason we found ourselves in there that day. The players in the photo are as follows:
Back Row L-R:
W.O'Callaghan, F.O'Driscoll, S.Finnegan, E.Dillon, P.Cambridge, M.Brosnan, J.O'Donoghue, M.McHenry, E.Foley, A.McCarthy, F.Dullea.
Front Row L-R:
T.Cotter, E.O'Mahony, D.Forde, D.Lehane, T.Desmond, K.'O'Keefe, Iain Skally, B.Kearney, D.Dennehy, P.Walsh.

There are others who did not tog out that day, but who are shown on the beach such as Stephen Kearney, Lloyd Coughlan, Declan O'Mahony, Declan Murphy, Timothy Madden, Paul Nagle, Greg McGurk, Sheldon Phillips.

Happy days. Apologies if I have missed anyone but those named are the only ones that I can make out from the photos.
